Mourning....

... is still a main theme in my pictures. Mainly female statues are displayed when it comes to mourn and grief for the dead.

These pictures here were taken in Hannover, Lisboa and Budapest and they make clear that the common concept of making the mourning visible is indeed something common throughout europe.

Jesus-Special in Riemsloh

This week it's a Jesus-Special. The Cemetery in Riemsloh was at first glance another dull and boring cemetery, but a closer look was worth the effort...

Strangely enough these pictures all show Jesus or a part of him. So be assured he died for our sins.

I'm willing to believe that this fly will rot and burn in hell! I really loathe disrespectful insects...

Flowers

Theses flowers are already dead or left to die on the fresh grave.

These pictures are a bit different to the others because they are very near to the Dead lying there. The grief is still strong and near as opposed to the old graves i usually show.

However the atmosphere is even stronger due to this lack of distance.

All pictures were taken on cemeteries in Germany.

Decay

Utterly forgotten graves... Apparently nobody's responsible for them..

Abandoned Jewish Cemetery

I guess this is my last post for May so i'm posting something quite different:

I visited an old abandoned jewish cemetery today. The site itself is quite small and most of the tombstones are quite dull (which is normal for a jewish cemetery in my experience). But it was a great light under the shadows of the trees and the atmosphere was very impressive.

I'm sure that there are very few people that know about this cemetery (and there is just a small sign at the entrance that leads you there: If you don't know where to look it will  be difficult to find it) and i'll keep it that way.

However, it is seldom visited by anybody: I've only seen one or two graves with pebbles on them (as it is custom for visitors to put a pebble from home on the Tombstone). Normal jewish graves have plenty of them. It's mainly because even the youngest grave was dated in the early 20th century.

Cemitério dos Prazeres in Lisboa

I've made these last autumn in Lisboa, Portugal. Since it was a quite cloudy day the shadows were very smooth and it was all around a very ambient light. I wonder if the pictures would be better if they had more sharp shadows but i'm sure that i'll get some day the opportunity to visit this amazing Cemetery again. It's really worth it.

A good friend of mine passed away this month.

I'm mourning over a good friend of mine. His death made me speechless this week. I really hope that he's now there where he always wanted to be: A place full of peace and a place that lacks sorrow and pain.

My thoughts also go to his family.
