Abandoned Jewish Cemetery

I guess this is my last post for May so i'm posting something quite different:

I visited an old abandoned jewish cemetery today. The site itself is quite small and most of the tombstones are quite dull (which is normal for a jewish cemetery in my experience). But it was a great light under the shadows of the trees and the atmosphere was very impressive.

I'm sure that there are very few people that know about this cemetery (and there is just a small sign at the entrance that leads you there: If you don't know where to look it will  be difficult to find it) and i'll keep it that way.

However, it is seldom visited by anybody: I've only seen one or two graves with pebbles on them (as it is custom for visitors to put a pebble from home on the Tombstone). Normal jewish graves have plenty of them. It's mainly because even the youngest grave was dated in the early 20th century.

Much text this time. Next time i'll be brief again...

Cemitério dos Prazeres in Lisboa

I've made these last autumn in Lisboa, Portugal. Since it was a quite cloudy day the shadows were very smooth and it was all around a very ambient light. I wonder if the pictures would be better if they had more sharp shadows but i'm sure that i'll get some day the opportunity to visit this amazing Cemetery again. It's really worth it.

A good friend of mine passed away this month.

I'm mourning over a good friend of mine. His death made me speechless this week. I really hope that he's now there where he always wanted to be: A place full of peace and a place that lacks sorrow and pain.

My thoughts also go to his family.

Here's a link for him (in German)

May you rest in peace!

Bückeburg

I had some lovely light today and i didn't miss the opportunity to visit the cemetery in Bückeburg.

The Cemetery is quite disappointing, no real sculptures (that's what i'm after), but it was not entirely worthless.

The old lady was giving me the permission to take a picture of her (only if you wonder).

Something quite old...

But still fitting! These are scans from old negatives of mine. They were taken in London, Highgate cemetery.

No Pic today!

There are some Pictures i'd like to show you but i'm still waiting for a permission. About a month ago i was at the local office which is responsible for the cemeteries in my hometown to get permission to take pictures of my local cemeteries. Sadly though they weren't able to sent this paper back yet.

Tomorrow will be different: I still got some nice ones from Brugge.

Brugge in January

The Cemetery in Brugge was visited by me in January 2009. It was quite cold but it was a lovely light all around.

Budapest Part II

These are from the Farkasréti Cemetery

The second one reminds me a little of Joy Division's "Love will tear us apart" and the first one is one of my favourite pictures i've taken so far...

It was a good time to visit Budapest: It was quite warm but the spring wasn't at work so the trees looked still like winter. That made the atmosphere of the pictures very gloomy and sad.

Budapest: April 2010

My first post!

the Kerepesi Cemetery is definetly worth a visit if you like these kind of graves:

And by the way: This blog is about cemeteries in general and beautiful graves in particular. If you're into this then this is the place to be!
